Pentney Abbey wedding photography - Alex and Camilla

“Amazing” doesn’t quite sum up just how wonderful Alex and Camilla’s Pentney Abbey wedding was. I don’t know how I’m going to find the words to describe it so luckily I can let the photographs do the talking! Ha!

Rustic barn wedding

It was my first time at Pentney Abbey and it’s such a unique and picturesque wedding venue. Tucked away amidst 35 acres of Norfolk countryside, Pentney Abbey is made up of a fully restored 14th century medieval gatehouse, a stunning rustic barn - formerly a medieval banqueting hall - and onsite accommodation.

The entire site dates back to the 12th century so is full of history. I was entranced by the thick stone walls, huge fireplaces and quirky little nooks and crannies. There were so many perfect spots for photography, I knew I would be spoilt for choice throughout the day!

Alex and Camilla had booked a second photographer, Emma, as they wanted to make sure both sets of morning preparations were covered. Emma started the day with Alex, who was busy getting ready with his groomsmen at the Chalk and Cheese BnB in nearby Shouldham. He was so relaxed and looking forward to the day ahead, although I think he got a little bit emotional when he read the card Camilla sent him!

Unique Norfolk Venues, the company behind Pentney Abbey, have put so much thought into every detail. The whole venue is designed to make couples feel relaxed, indulged and, of course, romantic! The onsite cottages are ideal for couples to get ready in on their wedding morning and I love the addition of a dedicated space, the Preparation Room, for additional pampering! I joined Camilla and her bridesmaids there. It’s a beautiful, luxurious room that’s the perfect mix of old English history and modern design.

As we got closer to the ceremony a very nervous Father of the Bride waited outside, ready to see Camilla in her beautiful Wendy Makin dress for the first time. A huge smile lit up his face when she walked out of the door towards him. This is always one of my favourite moments on a wedding day!

Couples hold their ceremony in the towering, impressive Gatehouse. The huge arched building is centuries old and surrounded by a stunning Rose Garden. While Camilla was getting some finishing touches done,  Alex was busy greeting their friends and family before everybody made their way up the winding spiral staircase into the Gatehouse.

The ceremony felt so intimate and romantic. Alex and Camilla said their vows in front of the huge window, with views out over the Norfolk countryside. Their guests gave them a huge cheer as they had their first married kiss, then it was time to head outside for confetti, canapes and drinks in the Rose Garden.

Alex and Camilla are just the most wonderful couple, they are both full of fun and I don’t think either of them stopped smiling all day. As you scroll through the photos from their day keep your eye out for the drawings on each table, and on the champagne glasses. Super talented Camilla drew them all herself!

This wedding was such a joy to be a part of and I was made to feel so welcome by all their family and friends. I loved every minute of their wedding at Pentney Abbey!
