Charlie & Jessica - Knebworth House, Hertfordshire

I absolutely loved photographing this wedding! Back in September I joined Charlie and Jessica for their day at the incredible Knebworth House in Hertfordshire.

Charlie and Jess are the loveliest couple, so laid back and chilled out. They were both super keen for their guests to have a really wonderful day celebrating with them and had gone all out to put together the most elegant yet relaxed wedding.

As soon as I arrived that morning I was made to feel like one of the girls, Jess greeted me by handing me a pink ‘bridal’ cup. She’d got one for all of her wedding party and wanted to make sure that I was included.

As the girls got ready I spent some time photographing all of the bridal details. I know how much thought couples put into their wedding and the effort that goes into making and sourcing all the details from invitations to bridal shoes, perfume and ring boxes. These are all the things that make a wedding day unique to each couple and I want to capture that for them.

The lovely Nat and Kazia were on hair and makeup duties and kept the atmosphere so upbeat and exciting. Everyone was giggling away and having a great time. As Jess put on her stunning wedding dress (shout out to Brides of Berkhamstead, she looked beautiful) I gathered her dad and bridesmaids out in the garden ready for her to make a grand entrance. It was emotional! Her dad looked so proud and welled up as soon as he saw her. Such a beautiful moment!

That certainly wasn’t the last of the tears for the day! Over at the church Charlie was wiping away his own tears of joy as Jess walked down the aisle towards him and his mum was overcome with emotion too. I absolutely adore the look that Charlie’s Mum gave him as he waited for Jess. She was filled with love and pride for her boy.

As Jess and Charlie left the church they were covered in white petal confetti by their cheering guests. I am a big fan of a good confetti moment! After lots of hugs and a chance to say hello to everyone it was time to head over to Knebworth House and Barns to kick off the celebrations properly.

Knebworth House is an impressive stately manor house, nowadays it’s famous for hosting music festivals and concerts but over the years it has played a prominent role in numerous TV and film productions and has also been a (very lavish!) family home. Knebworth House is surrounded by 250 acres of manicured lawn, herb gardens and parkland and, honestly, the house is just spectacular to see. I was blown away when I first set eyes on it.

Jess and Charlie’s wedding reception was being held in the Manor and Lodge Barn. This area of Knebworth Estate is a wonderful mix of historic and contemporary as the modern, oak framed Cedar and Lytton Barns sit comfortably alongside the 16th century Manor and Lodge Barn.

As their guests tucked into delicious canapes and enjoyed a glass (or two) of fizz, Charlie, Jess and I went for a stroll around the beautiful gardens. We had such a giggle together and they were so chilled I think they forgot that I was taking pictures of them!

I always love it when a couple puts a lot of thought into each detail of their day. It was so clear that Charlie and Jess had made sure that their wedding was a real representation of them and their relationship and I was blown away when Jess told me that her brother and his girlfriend had sung and recorded their first dance song. Amazing!

The rest of the evening was a whirlwind of dancefloor mayhem and everyone making the most of the lovely summer’s evening. Jess was having the time of her life, I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone smile so much!

I had the best time photographing Jess and Charlie’s wedding and I loved having the chance to explore Knebworth House and gardens. These are just a few of my favourite photographs.
